Typical selection steps

Security vetting (guide)
BPSS: identity, RTW, criminality, basic history.
CTC: usually ~3 years UK residency.
SC: usually ~5 years UK residency.
DV: usually ~10 years UK residency.
Residency norms vary; lack of full residency isn’t always a bar — check the advert or recruiter.
