What happened:n

• Family emergency halfway through my final semester
• I was too embarrassed to ask for an extension — I thought it would look weak
• I nearly failed two modules by not speaking up

• Contacted my personal tutor in week one of the difficulty, not week six
• Used the university’s extenuating circumstances process — it exists for exactly this
• Spoken to the student advice service before the situation became critical
